This grant will support the American Medical Student Association's (AMSA) End-of-Life Initiative which trains medical students as advocates to improve end-of-life curricula in their medical schools and residency programs.  AMSA's initiative will enhance curricular reform by providing theoretical and experiential training to students during an end-of-life fellowship program to improve the end-of-life care for their future patients and communities, as well as training the participants as advocates to collaborate with their faculty mentors to develop, implement and integrate end-of-life education into their medical school curricula.  The EOL Education Leadership Training Program will be a six-week summer experience designed to introduce 18 students to palliative care issues through an academic orientation to end-of-life care and hospice field placements.  Students will gain exposure to an interdisciplinary hospice team of doctors, nurses, social workers, chaplains, bereavement counselors and volunteers.
